This course is designed to advance students’ proficiency and communication in Modern Standard Arabic. Building upon the foundational language skills acquired in previous levels, where emphasis was placed on oral comprehension and conversational abilities, this course takes a multifaceted approach. While continuing to reinforce listening and speaking skills, students will predominantly focus on refining their reading, writing, and critical thinking abilities through engaging with complex texts on subjects intertwined with Islamic culture and literature. The curriculum not only aims to elevate students’ Arabic language skills but also endeavours to deepen their understanding of Islamic thought as conveyed through modern Arabic literature. Special attention is given to the intricacies of structural and grammatical elements in Arabic, recognizing them as indispensable linguistic tools for enhancing students’ proficiency and fluency in Modern Standard Arabic. The overarching objective of the course is to empower students to undertake a critical analysis of Arabic texts and discourses pertaining to various facets of Islamic thought. Through this process, students will develop the capacity to articulate their ideas in written Arabic at a proficient and nuanced level. This holistic approach not only enriches language skills but also cultivates a deeper appreciation for the intricate interplay between language and the expression of Islamic thought in contemporary contexts.
