The Environmental Studies and Sustainability Gateway course serves as a comprehensive exploration of the multifaceted dimensions of environmental studies and sustainability. Through an interdisciplinary lens encompassing the social sciences, natural sciences, business, and ethics, students delve into the intricate web of global environmental challenges. This course transcends traditional boundaries, fostering an understanding of both global and regional issues. Engaging discussions and explorations span a wide array of topics, including social and environmental policy, development and displacement, transnational dimensions of environmental challenges, access to urban water, food security and sovereignty, urban planning, sustainability, social risk production, and conflicts arising from resource extraction and conservation. Throughout the course, students gain insights into diverse interdisciplinary approaches aimed at achieving sustainability. The curriculum places a strong emphasis on critical thinking and analysis, encouraging students to examine the theories, principles, and practices underpinning environmental studies and sustainability.
