Law is an integral component of the business world. Commercial Law is a broad term for a range of legal services that are designed to support businesses in profiting from their products and services. This course introduces students to core legal principles, laws, and institutions which govern trade and commerce in Canada. Students explore a wide range of legal topics that business professionals typically encounter in the country. Through lectures, case studies, in-class discussions and debates, students learn to identify legal issues and suggest best practices and legal strategies to manage legal risks. Topics include contracts, agency and partnership, mortgages, the sale of goods, debtor-creditor transactions, tort law, business structures and organizations, and negligence.
