Program Components

Canadian Islamic College

Discover how the program is designed to shape confident, capable graduates through strong foundations, wider academic exploration, focused study, and real-world practice.

  • Core Component

Build a solid academic foundation rooted in the Qur’an and Sunnah. The Core Track provides comprehensive introductory and intermediate courses in Islamic studies,  including Qur’anic sciences, Sunnah, Islamic thought, civilization, sociology, and Arabic ensuring you develop essential knowledge and skills before advancing to higher-level studies.

Our core track is perfect for students who want a structured pathway grounded in Islamic tradition, with opportunities to explore multiple fields through our specializations.

  • Breadth Component

The Breadth Component broadens students’ academic horizons beyond the core Islamic studies curriculum. Courses in liberal arts, social sciences, research methods, statistics, and academic writing strengthen intellectual versatility and evidence-based thinking. Students learn to analyze complex issues, synthesize diverse perspectives, and critique ideas thoughtfully while remaining grounded in an Islamic worldview. This breadth supports stronger performance in upper-level courses and enhances readiness for professional and community-based work.

  • Specialist Track

The Specialization Track allows students to concentrate their learning in a focused pathway while staying rooted in an integrated Islamic framework. By selecting upper-level courses across one of five specialization areas, students deepen subject expertise, explore key debates, and develop transferable skills for leadership and service. Students may sample multiple areas or commit to one stream and graduate with a Minor. This component strengthens preparation for graduate study and career direction.

  • Practicum Placement

The Practicum Placement bridges academic learning with real-world experience through a supervised internship in a local organization. Typically completed in the summer between third and fourth year, this 200-hour placement helps students apply classroom knowledge, build professional skills, and grow confidence in workplace settings. Students develop networks, refine career interests, and gain practical insight into fields aligned with Islamic Studies—community services, education, policy, media, nonprofit work, and more.

  • Capstone Project

The Capstone Project is the culminating academic experience of the Honours degree, completed in fourth year through a two-part thesis sequence. Students refine a research question, review primary and scholarly sources, and produce a substantial thesis that demonstrates rigorous inquiry and specialized understanding. With structured guidance from proposal to final submission, the capstone strengthens academic writing, critical analysis, and independent research skills—ideal preparation for graduate study and advanced professional work.

Frequently asked questions

Have questions about studying at CIC? We’re here to help. Below are answers to some of the most common inquiries from future students. If you need more support, our admissions team is just a message away.

  • Will my courses transfer from another university?

CIC evaluates transfer credits on a case-by-case basis. If you have completed relevant courses at another accredited institution, you may be eligible to receive credit toward your degree at CIC. Submit your transcripts during the application process and our academic team will review them for possible transfer.

  • Can I sign up for individual courses?

Yes. Students may register for select courses without enrolling in the full degree program. This is a great option if you want to explore Islamic Studies, build foundational knowledge, or upskill in specific subjects before committing to a full academic track.

  • Is this covered by OSAP?

CIC is actively pursuing OSAP eligibility for its Honours BA in Islamic Studies program. We will update all prospective and current students as soon as approval is confirmed. In the meantime, financial support may be available through CIC scholarships and bursaries.

  • Where is the campus?

Our campus is located in Mississauga, Ontario. It offers a welcoming learning environment with access to classrooms, student spaces, community facilities, and on-site faculty support. Students also have the flexibility to complete their degree entirely online if they prefer remote learning.

  • Is CIC accredited?

Yes. CIC is officially authorized by the Province of Ontario to grant degrees. Our Honours Bachelor of Arts in Islamic Studies underwent a full review and approval process by the Postsecondary Education Quality Assessment Board (PEQAB), confirming that our program meets Ontario’s academic and quality standards.
