Welcome to the Canadian Islamic College
It is with great pleasure that we welcome you to the first fully accredited postgraduate Islamic Institution in Canada – The Canadian Islamic College (CIC). We invite you to be among the very first cohort to register this coming year.
Uniquely structured to fill a gap in Canadian academic programs in Islamic Studies, CIC offers a faith-based, multidisciplinary Islamic learning experience that is authentically grounded within the Islamic worldview, and reflective of the growth and development Canadian narrative of Islam.
CIC’s programs are founded on a robust pedagogical framework that is epistemologically based on Islamic Primary Sources (the Qur’an and Sunnah), along with scholarly Islamic texts. The CIC offers students a strong foundational knowledge system that is based on Islamic seminal works along with Muslim experiences and manifestations of Islam within a pluralistic society.

As we embark on this journey, we are committed to building a unique higher education institution with the vision of providing an authentic higher Islamic education, filling the gap left by secular academic institutions. We will challenge our students to think critically about the world around them and their purpose through the dialogue of faith and reason.

PROGRAMS
At the heart of Academic program is the Core Curriculum which is composed of compulsory courses that that are designed to provide a robust interdisciplinary foundation which is deeply esteemed in Islamic-world view.
It integrates Islamic knowledge and perspectives across disciplinary boundaries with a particular emphasis on the disciplines of Qurʾan and Sunnah studies, Islamic Thought and Objectives of Islamic Law, Islamic Economics and Finance, and Muslim Cultures and Communities.
The syllabus introduces major religious traditions, offers cumulative levels of depth in the analysis of these traditions and their theological texts, and critically compares specific features – such as ethics and morals (akhlaq), acts of worship (‘ibadat), and Tazkiya.
It emphasizes rigorous intellectual inquiry and experiential learning with a focus on the development of broader learning skills like problem-solving, project management, teamwork and communication. It is designed to prepare students for several careers including but not limited to: Law; Journalism; Media; Policy development; Business; Social Work; Ethics Consultation; Politics; Banking.
In addition to the Core Curriculum, the program is complimented with courses are designed to help students broaden their knowledge in the liberal arts and enhance their capacity to synthesize and criticize critiques from an Islamic perspective.
It draws from a versatile list of courses that includes introductions to psychology, philosophy, history and art, as well as additional courses focusing on research methodology, statistics, and academic writing which are key to student success.
It aims to empower students with the ability to think critically, write, research, and engage with their peers and community in a meaningful and substantive manner.
These courses are designed to deepen the student’s exposure to research and evidence-based practice. This prepares students to tackle problems as theoretical research makes its transition into practical applications within the field of Islamic Studies as they increase their confidence to apply and develop their critical thinking skills and advance scholarly approaches.
The Specialization Program deepens and broadens the Core Program and enables our students to focus their studies on one of the 5 specializations.
Students can either selected from any of the courses the courses offered, or choose to focus on one specialization and they will will graducate with a Minor in the specialization of their choice.
The Specialization Program includes 24-30 credits specific to one of five specializations. These courses are built within a framework of understanding Islam that emphasizes holism, faith inspired action, justice and service.
THE ACADEMIC PROGRAM

It is epistemologically based in the Islamic Primary Sources (the Quran and Sunnah), while offering students a robust background in the Islamic seminal works as well as Muslim experiences and manifestations of Islam within a pluralistic society.
CIC’s program draws on resources and approaches from a variety of scholarly disciplines to prepare students for employment in a wide variety of fields. CIC’s Honours Bachelor of Arts in Islamic Studies was designed to meet the highest standards of postsecondary education programs.
It is a 4-year program multi-disciplinary program that is structured around 3 essential and integrated components.
